Large 19th Century Japanese Charger

A wonderful, large Japanese 19th Century charger in the Chinese style.

The central design is of a scholar holding one edge of a calligraphy scroll while a young woman holds the other, with another woman looking on. 

They are in a garden with a typical landscape and there is a table to the right with the scholar's ink set and a vase of flowers.

All around this central design there are panels with flowers, butterflies and birds.

This is a big, heavy piece - it is 17" across x 2.1/2" high - and postage reflects this.

Condition is generally very good - there are no cracks but some areas around the rim have been chipped (probably due to hanging wires).
