A very well decorated and striking Satsuma shallow bowl with scenes showing scholars, birds and mountains.
It is 18.5cm diameter and in excellent condition free from chips or cracks and with crazing typical of Satsuma wares.
It is marked to back - 'Hododa' hand scripted in gilt in black cartouche under the Shimazu crest. This dates to the Meiji period and is c.1900.
Displays beautifully and looks great as a standalone piece or part of a collection.
